NARPM 2006 National Convention

A "Big Tex" overview of the 2006 Convention:

And what a conference it was.........for all those of you who missed it,.............too bad!!! The attendees who went to this year's
2006 NARPM Convention and Trade Show, September 27-30 in Burlington, Vermont started off on Tuesday the 26th with the "President's Tour", a scenic luncheon cruise down Lake Champlain. The 60 degree weather was a welcome change form the Texas heat. An old tradition was revived with "I thought I heard It All" contest during dessert. As luck would have it, we missed the color changing of the leaves by about a week. It didn't stop some from a scenic drive through New England though. Our paths took us to Dakin Farms for a real sampling of Vermonts finest maple syrup, various preserves, maple flavored meats and cheeses. We could "bearly" wait to get to the next  stop at the Vermont Teddy Bear factory. The last stop of the day was the world famous "Ben & Jerry's" ice cream factory in Waterbury, a short 40 minute ride from Burlington. We got to sample "Apple Pie" one of their newest flavors. Other people went to Shelburne Farms and the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory. Thursday mornings first timer breakfast was attended by over 75 "newbies". Property Managers from Bermuda to Australia were in attendance.
Wednesday evening the Conference opened with Steve Oniki, the "happy Jappy" who talked about how to improve our people skills. Thursday morning, Cam Marsten made his second NARPM appearance. He spoke about "Coaching the Four Generations". Friday brought the hilarity of hometown hero, Mark "the Mouse" Kreditor. His topic was "Ethical Conflicts in the Modern Age of Property Management". He picked on his friend "fast" Eddie Davis and hailed him as the
KFC ( King of forever empty condos) as well as talked about the SIC's (Sophisticated Investors from California. Afterwards he taught the session "The Do's & Don'ts of Negotiations" with his Brother in Law from N.Y., mediator & arbitrator, Ira Lobel.  Thursday's 50/50 raffle, a record $1170 was won by Ft. Worth's, Daryl "Easy Rider" Kazen, a member of the 50/50 raffle Committee !!!! The rest of the money for a two day total of $2200 was donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Friday evening's Autumn Glory Gala & Reception brought us special guest, Ladonna Gatlin ( sister of the Gatlin Brothers-Rudy, Steve, & Larry). Folks, this girl can sing!!! She told stories and sang a duet (Everything is Beautiful)  with member Erika Green from Ft. Worth. After singing America the Beautiful, Amazing Grace, & My Country Tis of Thee, there was not a dry eye in the house. Hopefully, we will see y'all in Scottsdale next year.

The Greater Dallas Chapter of NARPM excites the nation of NARPM with a triple score at the National Convention in Salt Lake City UT!

"Fast
Track - By Eddie"

The Greater Dallas Chapter of NARPM returned from the 17th Annual Convention and Trade Show at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah just about the time Hurricane Rita hit land. However, Rita was no match for the accolades that were received by our chapter members.
It all started on Wednesday, September 21 when the always entertaining, our own Mark Kreditor, MPM, was the opening session keynote speaker. His topic was "Portal or Property Marketing?- The New Age Dilemma". Mark wowed the crowd as only Mark can.
The Convention's emcee was none other than Cary Efurd. His delivery was well received by the attendee's and he often kept us entertained with his rendition of Elvis songs.
Next on Thursday, September 22, there was a "newbee" breakfast for approximately 100 first time convention goers. This included our 7 first timers; Earnestine Nichol, Steve Birnbaum, Sheila Lambeth, Sandra Robinson, Dave Christensen Jerry Ryan and Tom Leeds. Then immediately following the luncheon that day, our own, President Elect, Earnestine Nichol shocked us all by winning over $1200 (the most amount of money ever given away at any previous time) at the first 50/50 raffle of the convention.
The vendors at the Trade Show matched donations from our NARPM members just at the convention to the tune of over $28,000 to be earmarked for a Hurricane Relief Fund to the Katrina and Rita victims and given to various charities including the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and Habitat for Humanity.
As Friday arrived, the excitement built, as our chapter received "Chapter Excellence" among eight other chapters for only the third time in our history. Next, the first of 3 coveted awards were given to members of the Greater Dallas Chapter. The "Rocky Maxwell Spirit Award" given to a new member (less than 18 months in NARPM) for outstanding leadership and service, was received by Dave Christensen, technology guru and creator of our awesome chapter website. After the lunch and business meeting, Eddie Davis, MPM was then the recipient of the first time award for the "Volunteer of the Year" given to him by President Marc Banner. Immediately following, the emotional and teary eyed Banner then gave the most prestigious "President's Award" to our Chapter President, a shocked Cary Efurd, newly anointed RMP (his designation was given out earlier at the convention). A CLEAN SWEEP, HAT TRICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's keep the momentum going. Great job Greater Dallas Chapter!!!!!!
